Collaborative Consumption: Who are the users?
12 April 2012
Carpooling.com (http://www.carpooling.com), the world’s largest ridesharing network, reveals the profile of its 2 million active monthly users.
The rise of the ‘collaborative consumption’ movement has been covered extensively in the media. While the benefits of sharing our under-used assets have been communicated extensively, what is much less clear is who are these ‘sharers’? What sort of people would share their homes, cars and tools with strangers? What do they care about? Who are they?
In an attempt to answer these questions, carpooling.com analyzed data collected from its 2 million monthly active users over a three-month period in 2011.
“Interestingly, we’re noticing a shift in the demographics of our users over time,” says Markus Barnikel, CEO of carpooling.com. “Five years ago the majority of our users were 18-24. Today, however, more and more users are over 25. This underlines the fact that ridesharing isn’t just for students; it’s also a great mobility solution for working professionals.”
Whether you’re a mother in search of affordable travel, a student looking for an adventure, a single person searching for a soul mate or simply a consumer in search of the best deal ... carpooling is the innovative solution you are looking for.
